Synopsis:
Under a full-moon night in New York City, a random group of thugs completely strip down a parked car in the middle of a lit street. After graffitiing a wall with a bystander reading newspaper, we go live to April O'Neal's report on crime in the city.
We see her on a television screen inside a futuristic media store. After finishing her report, both she and her news crew are ambushed by the gang. The crew bails, leaving April to fend for herself. She runs away and climbs down into the sewer.
After a short chase, she hits a wall and is knocked down. As the gang approaches, 4 heroes pop out of nowhere, and make quick work of the gang, saving April. April discovers that her saviors are humanoid turtles who take her back to their sewer den.
Once there, she meets their Master Splinter, a humanoid rat. After explaining their backstory, April tries to leave but is stopped short as the turtles do not want her to reveal their identity to the outside world.
At Channel 6 News, April's boss speaks to the producer Verne about her whereabouts and how they are missing the story.
Back in the Turtle's den, they make plans to go hunting for this gang and help April with her story.
Elsewhere, the gang returns to the Technodrome and reports in, to Shredder. He blasts them for not getting April and getting beaten by the Turtles which has now piqued his interest.
Back in the sewer, April and the Turtles begin walking along the sewer drains when they discover a clue that brings them up to street level. After bumping into a startled elderly lady, April gets the turtles trench coats and hats so that they don't appear too astonishing.
As they encounter strange people on the street, the Turtles ask questions about humans which April finds annoying and has no answer for. She has difficulty keeping track of the names of the Turtles and keeps apologizing.
The group continues through the city to a section that is set up with a "Ninja" theme based on the names of shops. As they enter a pizza shop they found on the clue, they make observations about how the pizza shop is set up.
April is a bit unnerved by this and goes out to investigate the local area. Shedder monitors this from the Technodrome. As she wanders into a Security building, she is kidnapped by the Foot.
As the Turtles eat their food, the worry about April and why she has not returned yet. Wandering outside, they find her ID lying on the group, and her pursing dangling from a building.
Once on the roof, they find April tied up. They take on the Food soldiers and after a quick defeat, they rescue April. A foot chase begins, and they follow them to the next rooftop. Once inside the building, they find a lot of computers and monitors. The retreating Foot soldiers turn on the water system which floods the entire skyscraper.
As the Turtles and April climb the building to escape the rising water, they make it out just in time. They dangle from a rope as the building explodes into a huge water fountain. Back in the sewer den, the Turtles show Splinter the Foot's ninja uniform. Splinter recognizes this as the uniform of the Foot Clan and warns the turtles of his former nemesis Oroku Saki

Character Introductions:
Rocksteady - Caucasian gang leader. While not directly named, Rocksteady leads the gang who terrorizes the streets of New York with his baseball bat.
Bebop - African American gang member with a purple mohawk and sunglasses. Carries a crowbar and causes massive damage.
April O'Neal - Eyewitness Reporter for Channel 6 News.
Donatello - Purple masked Ninja Turtle. Donnie prefers peaceful reasoning over violence but resorts to it with his Bow Staff when necessary for defense. Very high intelligence.
Leonardo - The leader of the Turtles wears the blue mask. He is noble and forward-thinking. He develops strategies and works to successfully complete each mission
Raphael - Raph wears the red mask. While his temper and rage do not appear here the way it does in the comics and other incarnations, this Raph tends to be very sarcastic and references a lot of pop culture. His weapon of choice is his Sais.
Michaelangelo - The goofy younger brother of the Turtles wears the orange mask. When he's not craving pizza, surfing the sewers, or making wisecracks, he's spinning his nunchucks and kicking serious butt.
Splinter - Formerly known as Hamoto Yoshi, this humble ninja master used to train in a Dojo in Japan. After his rival got him banished, he fled to America and ended up in New York City. While struggling to find work, he lived in the sewers with the rats. One day 4 turtles ended up in his care. After returning home one day to find them in a strange glowing ooze, they morphed into humanoid turtles. Splinter himself transformed into a humanoid rat. He remains their adopted father and mentor.
Shredder - Formerly known as Oroku Saki, Shredder is a mastermind of evil, who plots to take over the world with his Foot Clan. He encourages crime, and wrongdoing to the teens of NYC, and pushes both them and his Foot Soldiers to do his bidding.
Foot Clan - Robotic soldiers that do the bidding of the Shredder. They are easily destructible but are dangerous to anyone untrained in Ninjitsu.

- April is out of shape.
- Shredder and the Foot either lease or own an office building in NYC
- The Foot have a water system that can flood rooms in seconds, but stop long enough for the Turtles and April to get ahead of it.

Conclusion:
Solid opening for the Turtles cartoon franchise. This allowed introductions to all the main characters (save for a few that would soon be introduced), showing off their fighting skills, personalities, and even some subtle humor. The design of the sewer system is really something to point out, and could not have been drawn any better. I literally would want to live there if I could make a replica of it...except for the trash, and smell which I would just get rid of lol. I recommend this episode!
